This year, we seeded a diverse mix of wildflowers and clovers a.k.a “Cover Crops” to our avocado groves. Why cover crop? They will: enhance the soil food web (more root diversity=more soil organisms), increase water infiltration and water retention, increase pollinator habitat and strengthen pest management, out-compete weeds, build soil organic matter, increase carbon sequestration, help establish mycorrhizal-fungi relationships with tree roots, break-up hard-pan soils—all in the name of a more nutritious and delicious avocado!
